Sajjan Garh or the Monsoon Palace, a palace that is worth a visit for its exquisite views alone, ranks 9th in this list of Top 10 places to visit in Udaipur! Perched high atop one of the hills of the Aravalli range on the outskirts of Udaipur, the Monsoon Palace was originally meant to be an astronomical observatory, a place to observe the pattern of the monsoon clouds (hence the name of the palace) and a royal resort as well.
It was a passionate project for Maharana Sajjan Singh, however, he didn't live to see its completion. It was finally completed by his successor, albeit not as per the original plan of a 9-storied structure.
The Monsoon Palace at present is an unoccupied palace and its hill-top location gives it an advantageous overview of the whole of Udaipur - the City of Lakes. The palace is encircled by the lush greens of the Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary and sightings of wildlife such as sambhar deer, hyenas, panthers, wild boars and reptiles are common.
Add to it, spectacular sunset views, gusty winds, and memorable architecture, and the reason why the Monsoon Palace is one of the top places to visit in Udaipur soon becomes clear.
